My friend and I will be going to Morocco next week. As women traveling alone, is there anything we need to be advised of? ( that we have not heard already? ) and also the parts of the country that anyone has had great/bad experiences in...my friend and I will be visiting the country for a week.

Re: My first visit to Morocco..
Tue, November 8, 2005 - 7:16 PMI went backpacking there with a female friend of mine. It is hard if you are two women, prepare to get harrassed a lot.
The country is magical and an oasis of beauty, the men(not all of course) there are slightly annoying.
Met awesome people there, males as well that are very hospital and extremely helpful and friendly if you really get to know them.
Go to Marrakesh, I loved it.
Do not miss one of the spice markets.
Which part are you travelling to?? -

Re: My first visit to Morocco..
Wed, November 9, 2005 - 7:22 AMWe are flying into Marrakesh. It's a part of the world we have always wanted to see, and we are very excited about it. What would be on the top of your list of things to see in Marrakesh? We want to explore the market place, and see some country side. We'd like to take in as much of the culture as possible. And of course if you have a favorite restaurant we'd like to hear about that as well..
Thanks.

Re: My first visit to Morocco..
Mon, November 14, 2005 - 5:06 PMdress very modestly...cover your hair, learn some arabic and french, and "la shochran" means no thank you. Do NOT be afraid to say it loud and strong, the witchier the better, if you want to be left alone by forceful men or salespeople of any sex.
My name is Bekka. I was in Morocco for 3 weeks in July, and have much info for you. Do Sahara Tours (sahara, atlas mountains) out of marrakech- the 3 day trip. It was incredible. You can contact me at frogland1@earthlkink.net for more...if you are still in the US.
Blessings!! -

Re: My first visit to Morocco..
Sun, December 24, 2006 - 8:35 AMas for what all said here is really correct and there is bad people and a very good & frandly people as well, there is some men looking for tourists to sale to them a expensive stuffs and probably for sex and things etc.. i can say that's maybe will happen to you if you meet some guys on street, this is as for casablanca but as for marrakech you can be able to survive from these things and even there is lots of the cops around you everywhere, in fact that's is in casablanca as well but not all the city because it is a big city, anyway it's all friendly and all will want you to enter to their stores shops and things , every new year i spend some time in marrakech because it is very different from other cities and magic life as well, as for the restaurants here is a link of some wonderful ones here but i guess little expinsive : www.darzellij.com/ and if you want to eat in some places that is really cheaply with yummy foods and tradicionals things , i have the address here is : (41, Rue bani Marine lmm, Haj Radi Marrakech -Tel:044,44,03,43) it is around the banks " Wafa Bank and Bank El maghirb)
Good Luck and Enjoy time ;-D -

Re: My first visit to Morocco..
Sun, December 24, 2006 - 9:25 AMSamir I loooooooooooooooooooooved Marrakech and had such a good time talking to the people there and cruising through the shops. I went with friends to a terrace cafe to have lunch over the djmaa al fna and it was awesome. There is a little coffe cafe we stopped at to have arabic coffee in the morning. Can you imagine a good cup of coffee for only 10 dirhams (less than a dollar and a half) compare that to Starbucks!!!! I must go back to Marrakech. -

Re: My first visit to Morocco..
Sun, December 24, 2006 - 2:09 PMOh Yeah!!! See....What I told you before you come , it's a beautiful city with very differnet things, people, homes etc.
it's really nice to hear you had a great time in morocco and As we talked about the cheap prices here yeah the coffee in the cafe is only 10DH and in other places is like only 5DH sometimes "in morocco you can eat a very good food for only 30DH" Here you might take a lunch for expensive prices like 100$ U.S and you can takes a lunch for only 10$ or less more than that!
Did you visited my city? Beni Mellal! it is passage between Marrakech and Fez! -

Re: My first visit to Morocco..
Sun, December 24, 2006 - 4:36 PMI passed through Beni Mellal as we did a driving tour through the Atlas Mountains from Fez to Marrakech and took a brief stop in Ifrane along the way. Yes the food is excellent as I had lunch in a little restaurant in Fez for about 20 DH with a nice spicey Harira and a very thin crust pizza. I will come back maybe in about 2 years as I am on my way to East Africa next. I found the people to be very lovely both men and women and had very nice conversations. Everyone spoke to me in either French or Arabic at first until they found I was American and then they wanted to know everything...hahahaha. it was way cool. We spent some time in Volubilis and I got a guided tour of the medina in Fez. Fez was awesome but then so was Marrakech. I felt very much at home. -

Re: My first visit to Morocco..
Fri, February 9, 2007 - 3:49 PMI spent two weeks there last winter. It was awesome.
I did not get hassled At All. I dressed conservatively but did not cover my hair.
I found that the people there were really helpful and friendly.
I had the most fun in a small surf town south of Agadir. Absolutely gorgeous!!
Learn some French and learn how to at least read Arabic script if you can.
