I just started modern standard arabic lessons at a groovy organization downtown san francisco. it's called pacific arabic resources, and it's run by a brilliant bloke named jamal. we started learning to write the arabic alphabet after the first meeting. after i finish this course, i'll be starting moroccan dialect. they offer many dialects, and next session they will be offering a BERBER course. probably the only place on this continent where one can learn berber.

Re: regarding language
Sun, November 14, 2004 - 10:20 AMThanks for the info, I have been looking for Arabic language classes that don't meet every day (as at UC Berkeley and UCSF).
I am going to try to take the beginning Arabic class offered at Skyline College (quite a bargain!) in San Bruno. -

Re: regarding language
Wed, February 2, 2005 - 12:34 PMhey,
i'm taking a break this session, but i do plan to continue there. my teacher was jamal (the owner), and he was pretty good. he used to translate for the UN. he's still refining the textbook for the intro course, but the textbook for all other modern standard levels is complete. it would be nice if the class was three hours a week instead of 1.5, but most people can't devote that much time. you have to be disciplined enough to work yourself. i recommend it! -
