Thanks! I plan to visit for the first time in late May and Early June, a music festival in Fes, and other cultural sites. If you have a list of places I shouldn't miss, I'd be interested in knowing it.

If you have time, then Marrakesh is amazing. Also, Essaouira on the coast is a nice quite alternative to the cities. The drive out from Marrakesh is quite pleasant too.

You must go to the Plaza Djema' el-Fnaa in Marrakech and the moutains near marrakech with the most gorgeous views of the countryside - there is a magical feel I've yet to experience elsewhere. Although it is a small and simple city it is booming with tourists and european expatriots so it manages to lend a cosmopolitan and liberating feeling with out compromising the exotic & rich traditional moroccan culture. And the food is so yummy! Even the most simple food tastes sooo good! And I did find that the fancier the restaurant the less flavorful the food so don't shy away from the humble eateries the locals frequent (unless u have an overly sensitive stomach). I even ate snails in the plaza Djema' el-Fnaa without getting sick. But beware of mayonaise- sometimes it is left out in the heat and can lead to a puking episode as happened to me on one trip to Tangier. Yet I had eaten the mayo on many other occasions with no problem. Take lots of film there is so much beauty to photograph but make sure to ask permission before taking a picture of someone. And sometimes it is appropriate to offer a tip.

I spent most of my time in Marrakech and Tangier and I have been to Tetouan, Essaouira, the Valle de Urika, & Ouarzazate, Casablanca, Fes, & Rabat. I haven't made it to the Sahara yet even though I've been dying to see it. So it's at the top of my list for my next visit. I'm determined to go there soon, incha'Alah. Oh yeah, I also want to see the roman ruins in Volubilis. Samir, what destinations do you recommend that I haven't see yet?

                    Thanks Samir,
I printed your recommendations and I will research the destinations before my next extended visit. Yeah, I love Morocco, Moroccan people, crafts, food, music, dance, you name it!

Oh wait, I don't love the bathrooms. You know, the ones with the empty water bottle and faucet next to the hole and no toilet paper in site. Then if you're lucky there is soap at the sink but who wants to touch a bar of soap someone else used who DIDN'T use toilet paper. You know exactly what I'm thinking don't you? And if this happens while u are in a restaurant (not the fancy ones of course) and u want to eat Moroccan style (w/ your hands) it sucks even more. This is my only complaint. Carry kleenex and hand sanitizer everywhere!

No, actually my main pic was taken last summer in Mazatlan, Mexico. I can't wait to take new pics in Morocco. I'm craving couscous with chicken, onions, raisins, & cinnamon. Oh yeah and fried Sole, and chicken with that broth filled with sliced green olives and a plate of freshly made french fries (why do they taste soooo good there?) and home made hobbs. And the little moroccan salads that I can never get enough of. The olives, mmmmmm. What about fish tajine? And the little shrimp simmered in that tomatoe based broth (gambas al pil pil?). What about caliente served on the streets in Tangier. Yummy. On one extended stay I gained over 10 pounds. And the figs, dates, and those almond based wedding cookies. I think I ate 10 boxes of those cookies on one trip. And moroccan turron. It's like heaven.

sorry about posting twice, computer problems. mercury just went retrograde so what do you expect? oh yeah and if you could make harrira without the meat I would be happy.

Sure....I would love that you are eating with my family , you can eat Pastilla and any things you want !!!!
well Bastilla, perhaps the best known of Moroccan dishes, has at least six different variations in its spelling alone! (**BASTILLA** **BESTILLA** **B'STEEYA** **BISTEEYA** **BISTAYLA** **PASTILLA**) Mid-eastern food often includes unusual combinations of sweet and savory flavors with complex blendings of herbs and spices. This is a lighter version of a very traditional Moroccan recipe, which is usually laden with saturated fat. The original recipe for this delicious repast, which is often the first course of a Moroccan feast, features roast squab meat, slivered almonds ground with cinnamon and powdered sugar, a layer of fluffy scrambled eggs and flaky layers of phyllo pastry drenched in butter. Like the original, this recipe takes advance planning and at least a couple of hours to prepare. Unlike the original, the fat content is much lower. I think you will find this version to be a delicious surprise and worth the time! It is served with a flavorful sauce made from reducing the stock that is used for poaching......................Why you don't love harrira without the meat ?
